The Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) has initiated a rapid review of 16 therapies for relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). This move comes in response to a pricing dispute over popular treatments, including ocrelizumab and ofatumumab, which threatened to disrupt subsidised access for Australian patients. The review aims to assess the alignment of these therapies with current guidelines and practice, considering their efficacy tiers and patient preferences. The Department of Health will conduct a thorough examination, including public consultation, to address six key questions. This process is expected to deliver a report by December 2026, with outcomes available in January 2027.
